Best known for playing the character of John Honai in the 1990 film Harihar Nagar, Mollywood actor Rizabawa expires at the age of 55. The renowned actor passed away at a private hospital in Kochi on Monday.
There would not be any public homage as the samples collected from the actor’s body tested positive for Covid-19.
According to a film source, the actor had been hospitalized a couple of days ago after suffering a stroke and was undergoing treatment for kidney-related issues. Rizabawa had also been away from the film industry for a long time.
After the actor’s tragic demise, several M-town celebs took to their respective social media account to pay sincere condolences regarding his death. Shaji Kailas, the director of Rizabawa’s debut comedy drama Dr Pasupathy, wrote, “We used to regularly speak and spoke very recently also. His bowing out so young is difficult to come to terms with… I have lost a good friend and above all a very good human being.”
A co- actor from Rizabawa’s debut film also mourned his untimely demise and wrote, “Even though we all will react to the news of a colleague passing away with words like unexpected, sad and whatnot, I am genuinely feeling deeply sad. He was a genuinely very nice person and above all someone who was very quiet and did his work with a lot of passion. We will all miss him.”
After the veteran actor’s M-Town debut with Dr Pashupathy, there was no looking back for him. He later went on to feature in around 120 movies and was part of hits such as Champakulam Thachan (1992), Kabuliwala (1993), Bandhukal Shatrukal (1993), Ezhupunna Tharakan (1999), Nerariyan CBI (2005) and The King and the Commissioner (2012). Rizabawa has also been featured in TV and is popular as a dubbing artist as well. He won the Kerala state award in 2010 for his work in the film Karmayogi, helmed by V.K. Prakash.
Dulquer Salmaan also expressed grief and penned an emotional note. “No matter which role he took up, he always made it memorable. My heartfelt condolences to the family of Rizabawa Ikka”, he said. Prithviraj Sukumaran posted a photo of the late actor and captioned it “Rest in peace! 🙏.”
